Hollywood that's not close to accurate. Baseball is different than all other sports, and teams generally look at the career more than just the last season. The only time they will focus on the last season is on a guy that's reaching the end and in his late 30's. Phil Hughes was 4-14 with a 5+ ERA in 2013 and he still got a three year deal. If Wilson was a free agent he'd get at least 3 years $30 million and probably closer to $40 million.

C) last year was not exactly an aberration, more like the progression of decline. CJ hasn't exactly been great jn his time here, and 2 of the 3 seasons he's had "injuries" and ranged from solid to absolutely terrible

Throw in that he's getting paid almost 20 million per season, and he's practically untradeable.

I'd feel just awful if some team came by and snatched our Texas stiffs and their contracts.  I would be available to take them to the airport at a moment's notice, however.

I cant imagine why anyone would trade for Wilson.  The only team that has a track record of doing such foolish moves is the Angels, and we already have him.

 

But at the same time, any pitcher can succeed in the NL to a certain extent.  So maybe he could get some interest depending on how much we eat of the contract.  You have to figure Arte's wallet is getting pretty full.

Probably why there are so many bad free agent signings in baseball. Teams pay for what a guy has done for somebody else rather than what he likely has left.

Totally agree. It's a pipe dream to believe that we would get anything meaningful for Wilson straight up, especially if we don't eat any salary. He is greatly overpriced for the market.

CJ has a back loaded contract (38M) and a full no trade (Santa) clause ... plus their trading from weakness.

They would have to eat at least half his contract and find a team Wilson would accept in a trade. I think the Rangers would be a fit?

He is so so so so bad. If you can eat half the contract and get someone to take him, you do it no questions asked. That would free up ~10 million that they could use to pay either Lester, Liriano, etc.

 

The Angels already have another Wilson in Hector Santiago. Having both of them on the roster is not necessary at all. They're better off giving Tropeano or Deloach a chance then having Hector and CJ both in the rotation

He's lived up to his contract for 5/6s of his time here. He was awful in the second half last year but I think there's a very good chance he returns to form

You gotta do it JeDi, give them some cash back and the return is the better too. Could move him just to lighten the blow of the tax penalty of a potential Scherzer, Lester, or god forbid, Shields deal.

i don't think it'd be unfair for the angels to eat 8-10 of the 38 million over two years. wilson at 14 million per is pretty reasonable in today's marketplace. the contract has value at that price point and duration. if they're willing to eat 10 million, then there's a decent chance he could be moved.

Am I the only one who thinks that if they trade Wilson it means they are seriously considering going after Lester or Scherzer? Could there really be another reason? Regardless of what you think about Wilson, it isn't like this team is deep as it relates to potential for starters. Would anyone really be surprised if Wilson had an ERA around 3.50 this coming year?
