Who's at Shortstop ?

Recommended Posts

Green is actually better at short than he is at second. The work he's put in with Alfredo really shows. His arm is stronger, he's getting to the ball quicker. By no means is he a "plus" defender, but he's gone from a "fringe" SS to a passable defensive SS.

Teams have mostly caught onto the defensive value a marquee SS provides and are keying on that. But if teams were willing to play Hanley at SS just because of his bat there are probably at least a couple of teams that'd do the same with Green.

I'd prefer they use him as the super utility infielder or platoon him with Cron at DH and just play the hot bat.

As you will read in Monday's OC Register, that is the Angels top priority for the rest of the winter. They have no one right now who could play SS for more than a few days.

Their top choice is re-signing Beckham. After that seems more likely they trade for another Andrew Romine type than sign a FA.

If a Romine is the answer then they might as well stay in house. Beckham is going to cost too much to watch the game from the bench unless he accepts well below last years salary.
