I like to think I am level-headed when it comes to free agent acquisitions, but I'd really, really like to see the Angels sign Lester.

It won't happen, I understand, but I think he would be the final piece to constructing an outstanding team.

Yep. If they are going to go after a big fish in the FA market...grab the top shelf starter who DOESN'T have a draft pick compensation attached to his name. He'll also cost a bit less than what Scherzer will get.

Not getting my hopes up, although Lester would seemingly make the team nearly dominant. Lester, Richards, Weaver, Shoemaker, and Wilson (especially if Wilson bounces back) is deadly. Santiago, Tropeano, and Rasmus make up some depth. Would and wouldn't be surprised at the same time if they sign him.

Sign Lester, trade Iwakuma for a bat. It would make sense.

The Mariners would be a very serious threat if they got Lester.

I don't think it is totally insane to believe the Angels could sign Lester. They would exceed the tax threshold the next two years if they did so, but the penalties wouldn't be prohibitive. Assuming Lester caused the Angels to exceed the threshold by $12 mil in each of the next two seasons, you'd be looking at only $5-6 mil in penalties. That amount isn't so high that it should automatically preclude signing him.

I think they'll keep Kuma and trade Walker for Justin Upton.

Right now, the Mariners have a better middle of the order than we do "on paper" with Cano, Cruz and Seager. Ackley and Morrison came on strong in the second half for the M's too.

I have Seattle as the team that will give the Angels the most problems from the AL West in '15.

Could then see both the Halos and the M's in the same post-season, for the first time ever.
