Angels Official Website: Lefty Roth clears waivers, becomes free agent

Angels left-hander Michael Roth left the organization on Tuesday, electing to become a free agent just 28 months into his professional career after clearing waivers. Outfielder Alfredo Marte and catcher Jackson Williams, both of whom were claimed by the Angels this offseason, also cleared waivers but were outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake.

I like the timing of how Dipoto dropped Kieschnick, Marte, and Jackson. He took advantage of the Rule V deadline to snag player depth. A lot of teams placed prospects unnecessarily on their 40 man rosters allowing our guys to slip through waivers.

 

We have Kieschnick and Marte as OF depth, Williams and Cutler as catching depth (Cutler in particular was an interesting pickup).

good move by Roth -- Angels organization sort of has lost faith in him (and have reasons to feel that way) and so he takes F/A. As a lefty he'll be picked up by someone and may get a new start with another organization to rejuvenate his career and stick around in MLB.
