His sample size isn't as big as Figgins' was (122 post-season at bats vs. 59 post-season at bats).

But both have normally laid an egg in the post-season.

What traits make a hitter solid during the season, and bad in the post-season?

This looks like your kind of project, digging into the archives and finding hidden gems. There is really only about fourty years worth of relevant data to sift through, go to it and come back in a few months with the answer. Edited by notti

Well according to the general consensus on this board or so it seems, there is no such thing as a clutch player, just a lucky one.

But if I had to answer your question, I would say a guy that has good plate discipline, has a smart approach, and can make contact most of the time.  Torii Hunter has had great postesasons in his younger days, and dominant hitters like Josh Hamilton look completely lost.  Some guys just cant do it every day for 162 days.  Theres a lot of moving parts in the regular season, guys are constantly battling injuries, trying to make it through the grind of a long season.  The playoffs, you play 2 games followed by an off day.  You leave it all out there and dont worry about the grind.  Just because someone consistent great regular seasons, and doesnt show up in the playoffs, that doesnt make them "unlucky."  One of the biggest myths in baseball is that the postseason is a crapshoot.  It requires no more luck than in any other sport, many champions win by a single bounce of a ball.  The Lakers in 2010, the Giants who beat the undefeated Patriots.  It happens all the time, its a part of sports.  Blaming it on being unlucky is a losers mentality.
