Been shopping at Vons because it's closest to the house. Looks like I generally get .20 off a gallon punching in a phone number at Chevron.

Chevron is typically 10 cents higher than Shell. Arco is usually lowest around here - cash only.

 

I shop both Ralphs and Vons with the gas rewards deal. You'd have to acquire 200 points to get 20 cents off with Ralphs. So I do the Ralph's survey for 50 points... you can do it once a week.

That's because Chevron and Mobil have the best gas, I think Shell is ok. But Arco, Costco, and Sam's Club, cheap gas, have less additives and through a scientific test have more harmful particles.

 

I was looking at the receipt yesterday and it's 200 points at Vons and $1 = 1 point. Pretty easy to spend $200 at the grocery store to get the highest discount.

Spend $200 per month and get 20 cents per gallon at Ralphs also.  That's why I supplement by taking the survey for 50 points b/c I don't shop exclusively at any one store.

At the end of your receipt you will see a number to use. (You won't find it on EVERY receipt but most.) Go to Krogerfeedback to enter the sweeps and get the extra points using your rewards card number. Cannot do this more than once a week. I usually do it twice a month.

Up here a lot of the Safeways have gas stations and you can use up to 100 rewards and get $1.00 off per gallon. There are a bunch of programs that get you bonus points (Just4U, Fast Forward). It really only takes me about $250 of money spent there to get to $1.00 off per gallon.

I like diesel. Averaged 49.7 MPG on my last long trip.

It's also got enough torque to haul a 3500 lb trailer if needed (boat or firewood).

 

I add a liter of biodiesel every fillup to improve lubricity. The fedgov dicked with the diesel formula in 2006 so using a lubricity additive is a good idea.

Generally speaking, I think the gas drop was mid terms.

 

Society is exponentially growing....more consumption, more demand.

That is true, but a 20-25% drop in price since late Spring/early Summer probably didn't hurt either.

 

That being said, more and more new homes are going up in the Irvine area.    Very little empty space now exists in that part of O.C., outside of the former El Toro Marine Base area and a patch alongside Sand Canyon.

The Saudis announced that they weren't going to cut production a couple days ago. Prices aren't going up anytime soon. I think there is a bit of a Saudi power play here. They can pull oil out of the ground cheaper than anyone on the planet. So they get to squeeze Iran, Russia and the US fracking boom at the same time.

This is actually a power play by the US to collapse Russia's economy.  Low oil prices hurt the ruble.  It's about maintaining petrodollar supremacy.
