To a friend who was excessively celebrating the outcome of last Tuesday's election, I said, "If you believe that we have had gridlock up until now, you ain't seen nothing yet." What I foresee coming out of the new Republican Congress is that instead of taking the opportunity to lead and offer something constructive, they will up the ante in trying to discredit the President, because they have a "mandate". They will pass a bunch of bills that they know in advance that he will veto in order to make the point that nothing is getting accomplished - which, in fact, they will be largely responsible for. This will set the stage for the Republican nominee in 2016 to point out how little has been accomplished over the last four years.

That's the problem. They will pass plenty of them, just nothing that won't be vetoed.

It's all party agenda driven. Obama is a little butt hurt about the midterms and will not sign anything this congress sends his way. That whole "bridging the aisle" crap is a campaign term.

It seems strange that Americans overwhelmingly voted for Republicans, while largely approving state questions that go against everything that party believes in.
