Little to no recess is appalling.

There is no evidence that it's in the best interest of the kids nor that it produces better educated kids, but this is the crap that kids have to deal with.

Making kids spend more time in the classroom isn't a solution. Fixing what's wrong while they are in the classroom is what the goal should be.

Nate, I'm curious, do you have any articles or links of those countries and what kind of hours in class the kids spend?  You also mentioned before that many of the better schooled countries have programs that common core is patterned after.  Can you show me those as well?

I always wonder why the first response is always "more" instead of "better".

They aren't mutually exclusive.  More is worthless unless it is also better.

I will get you some links and forward it.  A lot of it comes in the Mensa Bulletins we get every month.

The best countries education wise all spend more time in the classrooms.

It is idiotic to do it without recess.  I would think that kids should spend no more than 2 hours in class without recess.

The best countries in education also leave kids behind all the time to. We spend a ton of resources to make sure the bottom 5% "learn". Other countries just let them go.
