Weaver out 4-6 weeks with broken elbow

It's gotta be Richards.  No one can replace Weav, but this is the one even I was talking about in my Bold Predictions article that would occur.  One pitcher would be out a month or so, Richards would come into the rotation and be so good that he pushes either Blanton or Hanson to the bullpen.

I've constantly heard that Richards has some of the best stuff in the organization. I'm fine with letting him learn a little and playing with some pressure. He's a confident/aggressive guy and this may be his big chance to show it.

Still, this is bad. Time for the offense to really take control here.

I really don't have that much confidence in Richards in the rotation unless he's finally found an effective 3rd pitch to get lefties out with.

I sure hope he has, because otherwise this rotation went from middle of the pack to downright ugly.

This is where the lack of depth comes in to bite the Angels in the buttocks.

"Well, if most of our starters are at or above projections and stay healthy...."  That didn't happen.

I will say this, and you can call me a failo if you want, but despite the money spent in the offseason, I didn't view this team as a playoff contender this year.  I saw the Starting Rotation as being the weak link.  Now that weak link has been severed entirely.

If Weav stays out of the rotation for too long, it will be detrimental to the Angels.  If he comes back too early, he risks injuring himself by compensation, and it's detrimental to the Angels.

I am not saying "season over", but this is the single worst injury the entire Angels organization could afford to have.  Having a rotation of 3 AAA guys and a couple of 4th's is NOT going to get it done.

I will continue to watch the Angels with gusto, I just didn't have high hopes for this season when it started, and now I have even less.

I broke my elbow a few years back. Long story involving a blonde girl cough syrup and a tennis net. I can't believe how much it hurt. They put it in a sling and I had to start rehab two days later to make sure i din't lose mobility.

I just hope the Front Office doesn't get jumpy and start looking at trades that will hurt us in the long run.

I like the conspiracy-theories about how Weavs' injury may have been faked because of his lower-velocity... hilarious.  ESPN or MLB showed a chart of 5 starters whose velocity is down this season, including Sabathia (from high 90's to low- bout 7mph).

Hopefully, the rest of the team can get rolling until Weav gets back... or, maybe he can throw a soft-cast on and do an impersonation of Jimmy Abbott.
