If we're lucky, he'll get a chance to swing the bat.  He led his teams in batting all the way up to pro-ball.

Vargas has pitched well for them.

 

Wish we could have kept him but Halos were unwilling to give Vargas a four year deal for the dollars that the Royals gave him.

 

And, while hind sight always seems to be 20-20, I tended to agree with the Halos front office decision at the time.

I'm betting that last year you would have said Weaver would probably never get another chance to pitch in the playoffs. Keep the mope alive!

Weaver has been one of the best postseason pitchers throughout the course of his career.  Its just sad that he never gets any run support.

Failing to re-sign Vargas was Dipoto's biggest mistake in an otherwise very good offseason.

The Angels bullpen threw more inning than any other team by far because of with our bullpen starts being used to fill in for the loss of Skaggs and Richards.

 

Had we gone into the playoffs with fresher bullpen guys and Vargas in game 3 (when we did score some runs) instead of CJ Wilson and we at the very minimum don't get swept.

you can play the 'what if' game all day.  If we have Vargas then we likely don't see Shoemaker until Richards goes down.  

 

Or having Vargas changes the entire dynamic of the season.  Maybe we don't trade Trumbo.  

 

You can't assume everything else stays the same to the point you are referring.
