IGNORED

Serial - Anybody else listening? (SPOILERS)

He does have a lot of time on his hands to think about these things.  And he actually discussed on yesterday's podcast his methodology for answering all her questions (I don't really remember his reasoning).

I am 100% sure there will be no blockbuster ending.  My surprise ending is that Sarah marries Adnan in jail in western maryland.

Everything has been over analyzed to the nth degree.  I am just left wondering about any stone unturned re physical evidence.  The car, her body.....  for 12 week show, there was not a ton on that.

Koenig offered two explanations. One was conjecture on her part and the other was from Adnan's letter. Her conjecture was that he was being very cautious because he didn't want to give the appearance that he somehow convinced someone to change their testimony. If he had been badgering someone, like Jennifer, and her story changed it could be argued that he convinced them to do it.

The reason he offered in his letter was along the lines of he was trying to keep a line of separation between Koenig and himself. He wanted her to judge the story based on what transpired, not because she liked him personally.

Man, listening to Adnan's attorney made me want to kill somebody.  She was awful.  If I was on a jury and had to listen to her, I'd vote against her client every time because a) I'm a dick like that and 2) she's annoying as ****.  I can't imagine having to listen to that all day long for days at a time.  He diction activates my subliminal kill instincts.  I can't stress enough how annoying she was.  I'd rather listen to Nancy Pelosi and Michelle Bachman discuss policy all day long that listen to her for 10 minutes straight.

I hope I'm not laying it on too thick.

You're allowed tv, which you have to purchase, in state and federal prison.

You generally don't have internet access and an iPod. But he obviously was able to get a cell phone in like some inmates.

I'm sure they send him cassettes or whatever function he is allowed to listen to.

Just got done listening to the final episode. Basically what was expected I'd say. Though there is a new development they mention, that while I'd agree it's good to pursue it, it doesn't seem satisfying the direction it's heading to pursue it and Sarah seemed to feel the same way.

Re: The Alternate Guilty Party theories presented...doesn't answer for Jay. He knew where the car was and that is pretty convincing evidence he was tied in to the crime. Jay covering for someone else...and yet just happened to have Adnan's cellphone, was with him, etc. etc. just doesn't fit. If Jay had ties to Ronald Moore....well, that would be interesting.

Jay's story is still full of holes, lots of holes. Why the inconsistencies, especially about how Adnan contacted him. Two people say at the pool hall...and yet his police versions don't mention anything about it. Was he telling other people the pool hall version so it didn't look like he had prior knowledge?

Things I liked about the finale

I thought she was going to cop out with the whole I couldn't convict him if I was on a jury...but she...mostly...put a stake in the ground saying she didn't think he did it...most of the time. I think there is something to be said for one of her final statements...if he was guilty why would he let her do this story.

Things I didn't like...or will have to learn to live with

How much did her personal feelings for Adnan impact her final viewpoint...and there is still doubt...at least for now we aren't "ending the story" with him either rotting in jail, or walking out free.

I can't imagine there won't be some sort of update in the future, right? They can't be just walking away after a year's worth of investigation and still not having a real answer, can they?

I will say, this has totally changed what I listen to in the car...what is going to replace this?

Solid final episode. I'm glad she was able to talk to Don... he always seemed like a potential major player who had been downplayed in the investigation. The Innocence Project stuff is interesting.

Rabia Chaudry (the lawyer who initially contacted Sarah Koenig about the Adnan case) wrote an interesting piece for Time today.

I can't really point to any specific piece of information as the reason, but I feel a lot better about Adnan's innocence than I did before the finale. I thought they wrapped up well and reminded us of some of the main inconsistencies. I think those inconsistencies are more impactful now than they were before.

If Jay's story was full of holes before, after hearing his porn store buddy I'm more inclined to believe he's just a stoned-faced liar.

If Adnan is so calculating and so intelligent, why would he seek Jay's help at all, especially considering the type of dude he is/was? That seems a bit far fetched to me.

Sarah convinced me to share her view on the whole deal. I lean toward Adnan didn't do it now.

I think that Adnan had something to do with it but wasn't the killer.  As the editor said, if he didn't do it then he had the ultimate imaginable shitty coincidental luck day.  It's all circumstantial, but it adds up.

I definitely don't think he should have been convicted, though.

  • 2 weeks later...

Yeah, so maybe... Adnan got used to having sex (with Hae, but at 17 maybe it didn't matter) and that was his biggest problem with the Hae breakup. Maybe Jenn who was smart and good looking, started looking pretty good. Maybe it went somewhere. Maybe Jay found out and thought he would return the favor with Hae. Maybe Hae didn't like the plan. Or, some variation of this.

I think Jay is involved with the murder. I think Adnan is holding info back. I think if there is a third party, it's most likely Jenn. These two guys would probably be at each others throats more if they weren't protecting someone.

One more thing to consider, if Jay isn't changing his story to protect himself, could he be trying to undercut his credibility to benefit Adnan?

Ok, not good with names. When I said Jenn, maybe I meant Stephanie. Though it could be either. I need to go back and review. I think there is another girl involved besides Hae.
