UNC report finds 18 years of academic fraud to keep athletes playing

Recommended Posts

Once again people are ignoring the fact that:

a) 95% of these kids never make it to the NFL

B) they are getting a world class education that normally wouldn't be available to them

c) that education goes a long way toward the rest of their lives

Spare me the exploited for nothing shit.

Med school students can earn money.

A player who commits academic fraud is doing something morally wrong. It's not fair to the other students attending the university who are getting an honest education. Athletes doing that should not have the right to represent a university.

There is nothing morally wrong with a student athlete making money off their likeness.

here's my idea. let athletes be paid for selling their autograph or let them be paid for each jersey of theirs that is sold. figure out an agreed upon wage for all of them so it's reasonably fair. put the money in some kind of trust fund, and then once they leave school, write them a check with interest.

The players who need money need it now not necessarily when they leave school.

This is what I don't like about the system now.  And it's not about the NCAA.  But about the NBA and NFL.  In both baseball and hockey, you have options.  Go to college.  Or go to the minor leagues.

And yet for some reason, basketball and football have no such development leagues.  This entire college athletes should be paid would be a moot point if the largest sports in America actually invested in a minor league system.  Heck the quality of players and play would probably get better if you drafted players from high school, and actually taught them the NFL system you wanted instead of paying millions on a run and gun quarterback that will never be a successful NFL quarterback.

So much deflection in this thread.

The only thing that matters is that there are rules and there are punishments for violating them.  We don't get to choose the rules we break because we don't like them.  If we break them and get caught there are punishments.  Simple as that.
