Rays GM Andrew Friedman leaves for Dodgers

andrew friedman is an outstanding GM, absolutely no doubt. having said that, look at what he got in return for david price. it just goes to show that what fans think trades are about is not actually what trades are about.

I still like that trade for the Rays. Smyly is an above average starter whose young and under control for many years. Add in a potentially useful utility player in Nick Franklin and it's a solid return. 

 

A year and 2 months of David Price is valuable but not as valuable as some claimed it was.

Whoever said the rays run is over is crazy. They have a stockpile of young talented arms, they have some good young position players, and while their farm isn't loaded, they have shown themselves capable of reloading their roster in blockbuster deals like the price trade.

the rays ain't going anywhere. Unless they name reagins as friedman's successor

Another big aspect of this is Friedman did great with little money. While the Dodgers will surely spend lots of money still, I think ownership is looking for Friedman to keep the payroll under 200 million and stay at the same success level. 

 

My guess is the Dodgers try to move 2 of Ethier, Kemp and Crawford to clear up money and open a spot for Pederson.

At least now if Arte finally fires Scioscia, he doesn't have to worry about him going to the Dodgers. Friedman's not that stupid.
