Rays GM Andrew Friedman leaves for Dodgers

Recommended Posts

Dipoto has done well in a couple years, for the most part.

Friedman has a proven track record of turning one of the worst franchises in mlb into a yearly contender in a tough division.

I'd take Friedman over dipoto in a heartbeat.

Angels wanted Friedman over Dipoto.

Didn't offer enough... and/or the Angels weren't the GM job he wanted.

He did a great job of building the farm system by taking advantage of drafting in the top 5 for several years. Let's see how he does drafting in the last five( or surrendering a first for a tendered free agent). I think it is a solid hire for the Dodgers.

But remember he had all those 1st round draft choices.  How did he do this year?  KC is pretty happy with the Shields for Wil Myers trade.

Exactly.

Put Friedman on the Red Sox or Angels 7-8 years ago and I doubt he's the guy people are talking about today.

Maybe now they are, but they probably won't be when Myers is a MOTO bat for Tampa for the next several years and shields is long gone

And the royals threw in odorizzi who is going to be at least decent.

The end looks near in Tampa Bay to me.  The team is good but not great and the farm system looks depleted and will take time to rebuild.  Looks to me like Friedman made a solid name for himself (well deserved too) and is getting out while his earning power is still very high.

Until they have a REAL facility to play in, where it doesn't take a miracle to get to, they will never get over the hump.
