To those who want to trade Aybar

Recommended Posts

Aybar was strolling through the Main Place Mall in Santa Ana on Tuesday. Was pretty random.

This adds nothing to this conversation, but oh well.

I work at the Barnes & Noble right across the street and Howie usual stops by a few times a week during homestands.

I agree with this, except if we can get a Trumbo type package, then I would trade Howie.

See Jeff Fletcher's comment in another thread from yesterday. He said Howie would not fetch a Trumbo type package, but could probably bring back a single Skaggs-type young SP with potential.

Aybar drives me just as nuts as Howie, but since there aren't any real options in the org and SS is generally a tougher position to fill, I'm content with Aybar where he is.

It's an age/contract thing. Outside of guys like Marsaka, there is no one here that would actually think Trumbo is a better player than Howie.

Yeah, I cannot recall anyone wanting to trade Aybar. He's been the second best player on the team. I'd be bummed if he were to be moved.

HK can be valuable to the team but I think he can net a return greater than what he gives the Angels. I think his trade value is being underestimated. But I'm likely wrong because he's still here. It was fun watching him get hot in the four slot but back to Howie-in-the-playoffs mode come October. Great times.

Is it being said that Howie likes to read? He sure doesn't care for advanced metrics reports. Maybe he's a Hunger Games type of guy.

I doubt there are many who actually *want* to trade Aybar (or Kendrick). The problem is that we NEED at least one more pitcher, and if Arte uses the luxury tax as an *artificial* payroll constraint, the only way we get a pitcher is to trade one of them, especially because of their contracts. Right now, Aybar probably nets more in trade than Kendrick, but they are our *only* remaining trade pieces.

Who says they want Aybar traded? At least a Kendrick trade has some validity because we have a couple of in-house options, including one in Green who is perfectly capable of being an everyday 2B. But what the hell do we do at SS if Aybar gets traded? It'd actually be easier for us to fill any pitching holes than it would be to find a capable shortstop if we traded Aybar.
