None of them have come since they expanded the playoffs to 10 teams.

The way I see it, winners have any combination of 4 attitudes.

1. Arrogance-knowing you're the best and seeing every competitor as beneath you and then disposing of them as such. -Cardinals

2. Confidence-knowing that you've been there and that you can play up with any team in baseball. -Giants

3. Chip on the shoulder-A feeling of being overlooked and disrespected and forcing the world to take notice with your play.-Orioles

4. Grit-knowing you aren't supposed to belong there and just playing with your hair on fire because you want to mess things up for everyone else and take your glory.-Royals.

Any winning playoff team will have at least one of these. Hell, the 2002 Angels had two of them on grit and chip on the shoulder. The 2014 Angels had neither.

Not the way a team like O's did. Clearly the best team in their division and all they hear the whole year is about the Red Sox and Yanjs and how great the Rays organization is and all about Jeter.

I refuse to believe there are any "elements" that help you win in the playoffs besides the normal things you need to have a good team (ie pitching, hitting and defense).

You can look back afterward and say "oh this team won because they did x." But you don't need to do x to win. Because in another series, the team won because they did y. And in another series it was because of z.

So you need x or y or z, but none of those mean anything because sometimes you do x and the other team does y and in their series y beats x.

It's like a big game of rock, paper scissors.

These short series really are crap shoots. What if Aoki doesn't make either of those circus catches in the first game? What if Cowgill beats that play at 3b in game 2? Guessing either of those wins the game for the Angels. Did they suddenly have more of grit/determination/confidence/balls?

They are coin flips. Entertaining coin flips.
