As far as him changing his arm slot, isn't that how he originally threw anyway? He was forced to go a bit more over the top rather than 3/4 arm slot because of shoulder tightness over the years, but I guess he's doing new exercises that have loosened his shoulder up allowing him to go back to the 3/4 arm slot. I don't think that's the reason for the velocity dip

He said he had a dead arm in spring training some. If anything he probably just needs a trip to the 15 day DL to rest his arm. I know when I pitched in HS my velocity wasn't my max until a few weeks into playing games too.
