CJ Wilson vs James Shields in Game 3

I know that Shoemaker has been pretty automatic at home so far. 

Definitely have to win the first two, because game 3 seems prohibitively in KC's favor unless Nibs reverts to his 2013 through May 2014 self.

 

One thing in Nibs' favor:  KC was LAST in AL BBs with only 380.

The Halos were 8th with 492 BBs, their most since 2009.

 

That does make a control pitcher like Shoemaker become a little vulnerable, because they swing at so many pitches.

Could that partly explain his outing in KC?

Shields' career postseason  ERA was almost 5 going into last night's game, and he wasn't exactly stellar last night. I know he has the ability to be dominant, but it's far from a sure thing. I don't feel that bad about our game 3 chances at this point.

There is the health issue that Shields is now pitching through, that apparently limited him to 88 pitches.

Its less about Shields and more about CJ being awful

I think this has less to do with CJ sucking and more with Shoemaker being very good at home and only so so on the road. His road ERA is double that of his home ERA.

Great, great news!! What we've all been hoping for. I still would pitch Santiago in game 3.

I hate that Angels fans are so pessimistic about CJ starting game 3.  This is a brilliant move if you ask me.  If CJ comes out and struggles, we have the bullpen depth to use a quick hook and insert Rasmus which can almost certainly ensure it'll at least be a close game if CJ can't get it together.

 

And if CJ does get it together, there's a decent potential for 7 shutout innings.  

 

That's a chance I take against a team's ace any day of the week.

I think this is smart.

Game 3 with Shields is the most likely (of those three games) to be a loss.

So let's use our top 2 pitchers and make damn well sure we win games 1 and 2.

If Shoemaker cannot be the same dominant pitcher he was when he went down though, this team is in huge trouble.  We all expect Weaver to pitch well, but Shoemaker has to be that reliable number 2 starter.  If he is on and healthy though, no stopping this team for a World Series.

Well first Wilson was pitching Game 2, now he is pitching game 3. Lots of time before game 3 he can be pitching Game 4.

Never was worried about Shoemaker not being ready to go. Tons of pressure on a young pitcher hopefully He continues to rise to thé occassion
