Clearly his salary had nothing to do with moneyball. Also, why pick up Adam Dunn for his game changing power and never use him in extra innings to change the game?

Why are you acting like I ever brought up the subject of whether they should have played him and/or trade for him?  I was responding to his flippant remark towards the A's "Moneyball" reputation, when that book painted players like him in a better light than what was traditionally thought. Players like him were viewed more positively and valued more after Moneyball.  I mean, it has at least seemed that way to me over the last 10 years, but maybe you don't agree.

Players like Dunn that hit fourty to fifty home runs a season were always prized. Moneyball had nothing to do with elevating the value of Adam Dunn. It was about replacing those fourty home run high salary guys with a cheaper alternative that would generate offense a different way.

eric's right about this moneyball discussion. homeruns have always been valued. money ball is about finding the undervalued qualities that can be bought for pennies on the dollar. at the time of it's writing, obp was an undervalued statistical quality, and that's what he was able to buy on the cheap.
