Twins had a pretty good offense this year. They were able to score runs. Problem was they had one of the worst pitching staffs in the league and gave up a ton of runs.@

 

I think I read the other day that their pitching staff had the lowest K rate of any team in baseball in like 3 out of the past 4 years.  Eesh.

Texas will have to go through the motions but that job is Bogar's for the taking.  Small sample size but they played really well for him down the stretch.

Gardenhire's baseball career as a player ended on a bad hop playing in Venezuela. The ball busted his face and he layed in a pool of blood. He was never the same player after that play.

He's only 56 years old ... he may end up managing in Texas somewhere.

basically the Scioscia of the midwest. Seems like a genuinely good guy, great manager, probably some outdated ideas/methods and things that drive hardcore fans crazy (but what doesn't drive hardcore fans crazy?). Not like he's had a ton to work with the past few years. Will be interesting to see where he lands.

 

I wonder what he thinks about the contact play, one of the dumbest strategies ever.

This gives ownership an excuse to not pay for a top of the line free agent pitcher. Season ticket holders weren't renewing due to 4 straight 90 loss seasons. Twins haven't spent money on a high priced free agent since they extended Mauer to that extremely ridiculous contract. Now ownership can offer a 4/65M contract to Shields or Scherzer and when they get laughed at by their agents, they can say "we tried, but we feel our new manager will improve our ball club from last year," which will give the idiot loyal fans here false hope. The pitching staff is horrendous and Nolasco is still on the books for 3 more years.

This is a little surprising he did not have much to work with. It is probably best to go in a new direction though. Anyone know how many years were left on his contract?

He signed a 2 year extension last fall.
