top 5 Yankees of all time.

My son told me today that Jeter was the greatest Yankee of all time. After I told him a guy Ruth may think such a statement was hyperbole he said Jeter was at least top 5.

I could only name 4 clearly better: Ruth, Gherig, Mantle, and Dimaggio. Now i am not a Yankee fan. So i thought ypu brilliant people could give me some other names who are clearly better than Jeter.

I wouldn't put Mantle above him. Mantle may have had more raw talent, but his career wasn't as long, which I think counts for a lot.

Whitey Ford is probably the greatest Yankee pitcher, at least since the mid 1900's.  You might put him in the argument for that last top 5 spot (Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio), along with Mariano Rivera and Jeets.

Damn it.  Beat me to it.  Interestingly, in 1961, when Maris and Mantle tore up the AL with 61 and 56 home runs, Ford was the World Series MVP.
