Atlanta Braves GM fired (for pretty much no reason)

He was a solid and consistent starting player for 6 years from 07-12. I'm not sure where people get this idea that he wasn't any good. His wRC+ was better than average for 5 of those 6 years. Plus he had defensive and baserunning value. He was a solid player. He signs a huge contract and instantly becomes unrecognizable. He was 27 when he signed it and he didn't/doesn't have any injuries that would help explain any of this.

I apologize if he just randomly lost his abilities overnight after the contract was signed, though.

Solid and consistent does not mean 5 years and 75 million dollars.

His career line with TB reads: .255 .336 OBP .758 OPS 105 OPS+ averaging around 20 HRs and 30 SBs per season

He had a breakout year at age 22 (.300 .386 OBP .894 OPS) but has been pretty average since then.

At age 28, it was gamble thinking he'd be anything beyond a .750 OPS player and you don't pay $15 mil a year for that performance.

Yeah, it seems they were dreaming a little bit... they had to be thinking his offense would improve moving from the AL to the NL and from Tropicana to Atlanta.   Had his offense carried over a .750 OPS with plus defense in CF might have been worth 15 mil per year given today's offensive era (MLB average OPS .700), but he's come nowhere near that figure and his defense has taken a hit this year..

.550ish OPS last year..   Barely over 600 this season.   Atlanta has seen 900 at bats of 64 OPS+ offense from him.   That's just painful.
