for the Angels 10 game winning streak that just ended.  It bucked the trend of the past few seasons where they seemed to play down to their opponents and distanced themselves, not only from the division rivals, but in terms of home field advantage as well.  What is forgotten a bit is they has just got swept out of HOU (albeit only 2 games) after decisive 4 game sweep of the A's and it had the feeling of another "valley" after a "peak", like the period after they beat the M's 2 out of 3, including the "Bow and Arrow" game.  Credit to the team for re-focusing after a brief set-back and taking control of their own destiny.

 

 

Prior to the streak:

 

83 - 55, 4.5 games up, Magic Number 19, Run Differential +110

 

After the streak:

 

93 - 55, 11 games up, Magic Number 4, Run Differential +162

The encouraging thing is that this team seems to know how to avoid long losing streaks, and they have been consistent in doing so all year long.

Its not a matter of knowing how to avoid losing streaks. Its a matter of a team that is constructed with a balanced roster. Havent had that for a few years.

They have cleaned up on under .500 teams and pretty much broken even vs. the over .500 teams, just like in 2002.

55-17 vs. under .500 teams

1-2 vs. .500 teams (Atlanta) 

38-37 vs. over .500 teams

 

Pretty much every series vs. an over .500 team has been evenly contested this season. 

Even the 2-4 record vs. both the O's and Skanks was based on close games.

 

Only the Raviners pretty much controlled us in going 3-1 vs. the Halos with 2 of the losses being one-sided.  

We owe them, if both teams make it to the 2014 WS.
