.....and lately he's been doing this against poor teams. When we get to the playoffs, we will have one experienced starter with declined velocity (Weaver), a 27 year old rookie who has never pitched in the playoffs (Shoemaker), another inexperienced starter who has won 5 games all year (Santiago), a dysfunctional veteran (Wilson), and after that it's all bullpen baby. We better hit and run like scared jack rabbits.

We signed a starter to a five year contract we should have signed to a two year contract. But when the owners are this wealthy, this is the result - commitments that are too long for their own good.

I am not saying this was a terrible start, but when you win by this margin you hope your starter can give you some innings.

sad thing is youd think he would have tried to make changes to his delivery/routine out on the mound because what he is doing obviously isn't working.

CJ Wilson is a guaranteed bullpen game against a good team.  I hope CJ is not in the plans for the playoffs.  I am comfortable with whatever happens having Weaver, Santiago and Shoe pitching.

I liked one poster's idea of doing what the Giants did and leaving him off the playoff roster like they did with Zito. Forget $$$ and take the players who are actually doing well. At the very least, he wouldn't be needed in the ALDS since it's a shorter series

 

Based on production, he doesn't belong. 6+ ERA since June. 5 quality starts in his last 17 outings. That's Joe Blanton territory.

The Angels are 16-12 when he starts. A .571 winning percentage that would still have the Angels winning the West this season. The Angels as a team are that good that they can win in spit of a poor pitcher.

At least stretch out Rasmus to 65-70 pitches by the close of the season.

Then in case they have to send Nibs to the showers early, Rasmus can get them through the 6th inning to conserve the pen.

A game like last night will go south quicker on Nibs in October.

I don't see Rasmus as a long term option at starter. That means they need to sign one, maybe two SP in the offseason since we can't rely on CJ and Richards could miss a month. Peavy is one guy they should look at IMO. Got hit around in a hitters yard like Fenway but has been much better after moving to a pitchers park at AT&T.

You save Rasmus for Wilson's start ideally. Bullpen is deep.

 

The key will be for Shoe and Weaver to give the team 6+ in their starts.
