IGNORED

I'm not DOWN with Downs

The bullpen has been good so far overall. The offense has been a joke. I've seen enough horrid at bats and approaches the last few days to give me diabetes.

Today was on the offense. You give up 3 runs over 9 innings in Texas and you should win.

pitchers are ahead of hitters at this point. and the bullpen has been good. getting back to downs, this guy has been so inconsistent last year and this. all those bizarre nagging injurys and personal bs. we should just go with maronde and see what happens. downs has become the definition of "douchebag lefthander".

Lol, you're trying too hard.

Because I didn't post here after the sole victory we had, it automatically means that I don't post here after wins? Great logic.

You still haven't contributed anything to the conversation and simply posted to level a personal attack. I'll let that speak for itself as I'm sure we're all waiting with bated breath for your first nugget of wisdom.

He gave up a bloop single to Gentry which was essentially a leadoff double. Rangers bats got lucky today with bloops and Beltres homer barely cleared the fence

In that case he should have only gotten half a run. Otherwise, it doesn't matter if it barely cleared or was hit 550 feet.

1) The offense should be able to score more than 2 runs.

2) Downs should be able to pitch an inning in a close game and not give up a run.

3) I'm not ready to give up on Downs. He pitched a perfect inning on opening day. He hit Choo and, although hit hard, Pujols misplayed a line drive allowing the run to score. Today, Downs gave up a bloop to Gentry and then left a pitch up to Kinsler-if that pitch was a few inches lower it would've been a groundout to Howie. I tend to give guys a longer leash than most (see Jepsen), so take that as you will. Burnett (and probably Maronde) is (are) the lefties of the future, but the guy had a 1.34 ERA in 2011 and a 3.15 ERA last season- its only been 2 games, and a few bad pitches. I think people are overreacting to the "L"s next to his name.

that 3.15 era  is a nightmare.  bring up maronde. he aint gonna do any worse and his upside is tremendously greater.

i guess im just sick of these tired old relievers making the big money and taking up space that could be filled by hungry, non-complacent kids.

No.  We're reacting based on what we saw for the last two months last year - which reminded us of the end for Scot Shields - and what we saw in spring training and what's happening now.  Bad stuff like that happens to bad pitchers.  His ERA in 2011 is irrelevant right now, especially at his age.

And a lot of it is the frustration at a 1-3 start and looking for scapegoats.  Downs just happens to have two of those Ls attached to him.

It was obvious Downs had lost whatever magic he had during last years second half.  He hasn't done ANYTHING to prove otherwise.  His fastball is mostly BP so he relies on his offspeed stuff.  He's toast.  Use him for lefty hitters ONLY.

As to our MOTO...ugh.
