I've been on a camping trip for a couple days and haven't perused the box scores like I usually do, and cecked the game cast and was disappointed to see Trout's BA back down to .284. A few days ago he was hitting really well, his average rising into the mid -.290s and seemed like a lock to end the year above .300. Now I'm not so sure.

I think it is worth pointing out that he's hitting 40 points lower than the last two years, which is a rather significant decline. Is this the new Trout? Or will he return to the .320s? What do you think?

He's hitting around .240 since the All-Star break.

 

He's also having trouble catching up to 90 mph fastballs, which is troubling.

I think he's trying to hit more extra base hits/HRs. Balls he took to right/right center he's pulling off on causing him to ground out, pop up or K. His swing is still short, compact, and powerful but his approach sucks lately.

The last AL MVP non pitcher to win the award with less than a .300 average was A-Rod in 2003. But he had 47 hrs and 118 rbi's.

Trout will likely end with around 35 HR and 110 RBI, which adjusted to the era are similar to A-Rod. Still, those numbers would look better with a .300 rather than .280 BA, and the voters can be picky.
