What happens to batting average when player traded

Recommended Posts

correct. If a player is traded to a different league his ba starts over.

trivia-in 1990, Willie McGee won the NL batting title as a Cardinal (.335) after being traded to the A's. His overall average was 9th best in mlb.(.324)

He hit only .274 with Oakland

Your "official" batting average is by league. All the stats are. Its a remnant of when the leagues were much more distinct than they are now. After all, there are "batting champions" in each league but not major league batting champ. Of course I don't think you get anything for winning the batting title than the title.
