"Four girls in Rochelle, Ga. are fighting to do in their hometown what the Civil Rights Act was meant to do for all of America in 1964: end segregation.

 

WSAV in Georgia reports that Wilcox County High School holds two proms for its students: a whites-only prom, and an integrated prom. WSAV notes that the school has never had a fully inclusive prom in its history."

I like the idea that it's the students who are pushing the change. The next generation will be much less focused on race.

This is a town of about 1,400 people. Race question aside, are there really enough kids going to the prom for them to hold two of them?

 

Blacks are the majority - which makes this even stranger. As of the 2000 census, the racial makeup of the town was 46.08% white, 52.79% black.
