I was wrong about Shoemaker, but I thought Santiago would pitch better and though the demotion was somewhat undeserved, performance wise... That it was more of a wake up call. Scioscia made it sound like that was the case.

Mike's comments about Hector's pitching and minor league stint was the first the I remember him saying anything substantive in a postgame interview in a long time

Santiago is the next Weaver. He will continuously outperform his peripherals.

I actually stopped posting in Santiago threads because I felt like the only dude that thought he was doing good, outside of a few bad innings, and that people were just looking at his record. He had some really solid outing of 1 or 2 run ball that got absolutely zero production from the offense. I thought the demotion was strange, but came off the heels of back to back bad inning blowups, so I couldn't defend the move since everything done this season to fix things is done with everyone on the hot seat to succeed.

I understood the demotion and was ok with it. The demotion wasn't about stuff it was about confidence and it seems to have worked.

His WHIP for 2014 is even solid now (1.22).

That was the one concern I had for him, the command.    He has the assortment of pitches necessary to succeed.
