Sean Newcomb

Recommended Posts

The 15th overall pick out of Hartford, Newcomb had his longest and by far best outing as a pro Wednesday night, striking out 10 over four scoreless innings against Wisconsin in a 1-0 win. Newcomb told milb.com that the organization hasn't put a specific pitch limit on his outings, but the Angels have told him they would limit him to "two or three innings." Through six appearances at Rookie-level AZL and Burlington, Newcomb has allowed 10 runs in 14 2/3 innings with 18 whiffs.

The talent is certainly there.

Like with GRich though, he will need some time in the minors to refine his command.

Too bad he isn't like Weaver, who was able to come up to the Majors almost immediately.  We need a starting pitcher bad.

If I am not mistaken wasn't Jim Abbot like that as well?

His command is shaky but I still think he's quite polished. Will be interesting to see what he does next year. I could see them starting Newcomb in Inland Empire next year with a swift promotion to AA is he impresses there. This is the guy in the system. If everything goes according to plan he's an ace/co-ace.
