I don't know.  Call me silly or gullible.  But you have the Board of Governors of the NHL meeting in LAS VEGAS on June 22.  Something tells me, they are not there to say No.  This sounds like a perfect time to say Yes.

The word locally is that this is when it will happen. Like you said, I don't believe that they are coming here to say "Sorry, we know all that you have done, but you aren't getting a team."

I hope they do something cool on the strip when the announcement is made.

Maybe they can have a skating rink on the Strip set up.  So that people can go skating.  They can get some players to join them.  And get the mayor to skate.  Then have Perry check her for no reason, just to get Vegas ready.

In the latter half of June?!?!?

This is just a weird story.  Not sure there is any validity to it.

Report: Carolina Hurricanes could relocate to Vegas

Hurricanes have been in a position where they should have tanked for at least one #1 pick but they haven't & their not good enough to make the playoffs. They've just been hovering around between mid to top 10 picks but not bad enough to get a #1 or even the #2 pick. They did get a #3 pick some years back but thats it.

New NHL expansion draft details, including waiving no-moves

So Bieska...Buddy.   How about waiving that no movement clause to go in the draft?

They could always tell Bieksa they won't play him if he doesn't waive it.

I also still see many loopholes the teams could exploit. Teams will give games to horrible or overpaid bottom 12 forwards or D-men so they can meet the requirements of leaving unprotected players who've played min of 40 games or 70 past 2 seasons.

So step one they get Bieksa to waive his no move clause, then they can leave him unprotected.
As for forwards they need to give 40 games to Wagner or someone. Might have to let Cogliano be available ?

Ducks will have no problems with the other guys.  We have Despres and Stoner that we'll leave unprotected.  I also wouldn't leave out having Perry waive his clause also.  But I think Bieska is more of the target for this clause.  And we will only lose one player.

At one time, the Strip was under consideration by the league for their series of outdoor games. Not sure what happened to that. I heard that maybe 5-6 years ago.

As far as expansion goes, I'm fine with getting an existing team instead. I just don't want for the city to be cut out completely after all of the effort that has gone into this. When he was asked before, Bettman said that nothing would happen before an arena was built. That has been done. Now it's time for the NHL to put up.

The announcement seems to be the only formality.

Foley has done his work.  NHL stadium.  Check.  Season ticket drive.  Check.  Corporate sponsors.  I don't know, but I would think all the suites are sold out to the corporations.  It would really be stupid for anyone not to get behind it.  And considering that the stadium already has Tmobile sponsoring it, as opposed to the other MGM stadium or any other high venue place.  It tells me they are hard at work for it.  So I'm checking this.  Building a fan base?  Foley already said he has a public rink situation in place.  Just waiting for the team.  So Check.

I think really the only thing that is in question is the local broadcast rights.

If come June 22nd, Foley does not get a team.  Dig some holes in the desert.  Because I can seriously see Vegas blackballing the NHL at this point.

If the NHL does nothing, they have killed any good will that they have built here.

I have a buddy that moved to Vegas.  He got fired from Wynn and Harrah's.   He's still trying to make it out there, working minimum wage jobs and just grinding it.  Me and my friend just shrug our shoulders.  He is probably black balled from 1/3 of the Casino jobs in Vegas.  Might be closer to 1/2.  But he doesn't see it that way.

This is going to be the NHL.  If they say no on June 22nd.  They may rally behind Foley and call bullshit.  While MGM has the most to gain, I would think that every casino would profit from an NHL team.  Rooms, food, gambling, other entertainment, sportsbook bets.  Vegas would be the roadtrip destination for a lot of other teams fans.  And if they don't come, I can see a total blackball.  I'm even thinking they may take NHL games off the boards for a few years if this happens.  Yes, I think Vegas as a whole would be that pissed off.

Why would they have Perry waive his nmc ? Just cause of a bad playoff performance doesn't mean they'll let Vegas get him for free.

People are wetting themselves about the Raiders coming here (which I believe is about a 50/50 proposition at this point), but have little to say about the NHL, which has been considered to be all but a done deal.

To be fair.  Raiders are the new ponies in town.  NHL has been dragging this on for what seems like a few years now.  Wait till Vegas gets the FU from them like whatever bay area city they were supposed to move to.

And IMO, if the NFL is serious about an international presence.  London Raiders seems like a perfect fit.

As much as the NFL talks about it, I don't see a team in Europe being realistic. The league is driven by television ratings. If the league stretches across eight to ten time zones,  travel and scheduling become major problems. If game times are kept in line with US times, then the times in the home markets for European teams don't work.

Looking at some timezone converters.  8 pm in london is 12 noon in Los Angeles.  So I think it could work.  Only thing would be Europe would only have night games.  And you can probably rule out Monday night and Thursday night games.  It would have to be 1 am in London to do a 5 pm pacific time showing.

London at Seattle. Kickoff time is 4PM Eastern for a west coast game, 9 PM GMT kickoff in London - on a Sunday night with people going to work the next morning. You are also forgetting about travel time. Whichever team travels to London, or London travels to, involves a return flight of 7-11 hours and be ready to tee it up again next Sunday.

I just don't see it ever working.
