I wouldn't group this start in with his last few. He was dominant tonight, ace like!

Of course the coaching staff is going to try to stretch the starting pitchers, knowing that there aren't a lot of off days the rest of the way and the bullpen is going to be carrying a heavy load. It's just good fortune that they had the lead large enough to test their luck tonight.

He shouldnt have been out there in the 7th when were up 9 runs.  Let some of the smaller roles in the pen close it out.  Why push Weaver to his brink.  6 innings none earned is certainly way better then 7 innings 3 earned with over 100 pitches.

It was an observation about his one weakness this season, tiring quickly, that yes didn't matter tonight like it has in the past this season.

Just something to be aware of the rest of the season, that's all.

The difference right now is that Shoemaker or Santiago doesn't go back out for the 7th but Sosh wants to five Weaver a chance to go deeper. I think in a different situation it's a much quicker hook.

Without looking it up it feels like Weaver has a trend this year of being dominant until he hits around the 6th or 100 pitches. If that was the OP point that's not really complaining but making an observation.

I'd be ecstatic if the other guys can give us 6 IP 2 ER during that time.

Guys up by a ton of runs, so you challenge them. Sometimes they take advantage. 

 

Hold them to 0 runs through 6 innings, you're doing it right.

Agree wholeheartedly with the intent of that Cali.

He was the ace last night.

It was just an observation because he has struggled more this season than in the past as he passes 90 pitches. Last night didn't matter at all, but it is a concern going down the stretch drive.

Being upset at Weaver after last night is the equivalent of being upset at Hamilton for not hitting his home run further.

It was the tenth game of 17 in a row.   If they aren't going to try to milk a 9-0 lead to try to save the pen then I guess they are cool with flaming out the bulpen.   Maybe Weaver decided to take a page out of Jack Morris' book -and pitched to the score..

 

Weaver seems to be turning into a guy that's a strong pitcher for 6 innings and then a lottery ticket beyond that.
