Why not more talk about Tyler DeLoach

Recommended Posts

DeLoach has grown so much in the past year. He's constantly learning how to make his stuff work for him against more advanced hitters.

He's become necessarily deceptive to make his 88 mph fastball effective. Much like CJ, you'll see him nibble at the corners. His slider has tightened up to become a slightly above average pitch. His change up is already above average.

In terms of who he can be at the major league level, that remains to be seen. I would say he's a good 5th starter or swing man due to his stuff but we're constantly seeing guys with average stuff have above average results, like Tsuyoshi Wada. Shoemaker even has an average heater and mediocre breaking ball but has found success in his splitter.

At worst, I think you can say he will be a lefty spec or long reliever, at best, mid rotation guy due to strikeouts. More likely a #5 guy.
