Tonight, the Los Angeles Angels open a three-game road series against the Oakland Athletics. The Angels (76-50) sit atop the A.L. West division, while the Athletics (74-52) remain two games behind. After this pivotal road trip, the Angels, who have posted eight wins in the past nine games, return to Anaheim for a seven-game homestand against the Miami Marlins and, again, the Oakland Athletics. Below, you will find a breakdown of the most intriguing matchups of the upcoming homestand, along with ticket data provided by Barry’s Tickets

On Tuesday night, Marlins pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (6-8) takes the mound against Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker (12-4). Shoemaker, 27, has certainly made a splash in his rookie campaign. The Eastern Michigan alum leads all rookie pitchers with twelve wins; among those with eight or more wins, only Masahiro Tanaka sports a lower ERA. Last night, in Boston, Shoemaker took a no-hitter to the seventh inning before allowing a hit. The Angels went on to win 2-0.

8/28 Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Angels: Average Price: $40 | Get-in Price: $2

Athletics pitcher Jon Lester (13-8) faces Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson (10-8) on Thursday night. Lester arrived in Oakland last month following a blockbuster trade with Boston. The southpaw has posted outstanding numbers this season, reaching his third career All-Star game, and is showing no signs of slowing down. In four starts for the Athletics, Lester is 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA.

8/29 Oakland Athletics at Los Angeles Angels: Average Price: $52.47 | Get-in Price: $12

On Friday night, Athletics pitcher Scott Kazmir (14-5) battles Angels pitcher Jered Weaver (13-7). vintage angels shirt night. As a 22-year-old kid, Kazmir won ten games by July and was voted to the All-Star game. In the following seven years, the first-round draft pick reached the All-Star game just once more, in 2008; until this year, that is. This season, Kazmir seems to have returned to superstar form, posting career-year numbers after being signed by Oakland this past offseason.
