Desperate Measures?

Does G Rich's injury call for desperate measures? I mean, the rotation looks bad without him and even WITH him we wanted to solidify our sp. A #4 #5 starter wont do anything but fill in the rotation but we need at the very least a #3 at the top of the rotation. I don't even know if its possible at this point, Kennedy being one of our options and he has to clear waivers still. But at this point, what type of talent do we look for? What do we or are we willing to give up, and how much salary do we take on?

No viable starter will clear waivers. The best chance the rotation has is if the ones currently there can step up their game. For the most part they have been solid except for the fact they are not eating up innings. The bullpen can't continuously carry the load having to come in the during the 6th inning every game.

Jon Niese from the Mets?? He cleared waivers I believe

Has a lot of money left on his contract but we are going to be in the market for starting pitching in the offseason anyway so, if you like him, I'd consider it....but the Mets aren't easy to deal with on trades....

No way Ian Kennedy clears waivers...he isn't an option...

Waiver wire trade for anything more than a relief pitcher just isn't going to happen.

Even if a starter is owed a lot of money like Bartolo Colon, the Dodgers and others have both the need and the surplus funds to put in a claim. Any player on waivers would have to pass though 14 AL teams and in some cases 14 NL teams to reach us.

Even if we wanted to go for someone who already cleared, most of our players that have any trade value are on the 40 man roster and would have to be put on waivers themselves in order to be included in the trade
