Report: Six teams in mix for Rusney Castillo

Recommended Posts

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, Cubs, Yankees and Mariners are seen as serious players to sign Cuban free agent Rusney Castillo.

28 teams were present for a workout with Castillo late last month and he has since worked out for 12 of them privately. Most view him as an outfielder, but the Yankees are said to be considering him for second base. The 27-year-old has plus-speed, but teams have also reportedly been impressed by his power potential. He could end up signing a deal similar to the seven-year, $42 million contract that Yasiel Puig signed with the Dodgers. Interested teams believe he could make a decision by the end of the week and he could potentially make an impact in the majors this season depending on where he winds up.

I wonder if the Angels are looking at this cat?

Seems like the interest he's garnering is as an outfielder.  Not really necessary for us I feel.

The scouting report I saw on him last night says that he is very productive offensively, but defense isn't his strong suit - raising questions for those teams looking at him as a potential center fielder.
