Hunter has been a good, not great, player who is quite overrated here in large part due to simple circumstance (the player signed to replace him here has stunk). If Hunter types made the HOF, 50 players would be getting voted in every year.

Maybe 5-7, but certainly not 50.

the HOF 'magic' numbers are going to have to be adjusted in future years.

Players are not playing as long and the career total leaders of the current era in each category (hitting/ pitching) will be less than or right at the 'magic' numbers.

If you take Torii's 2,300 hits and match it up with all the players that entered the league the year he did, he's probably in the top ten.

so who's a HOF'er number wise will need to be adjusted.  Hunter may well be one of the era's better OF'ers as an all around player.

If Hunter plays in 2015 and all indications from this year would indicate that he does......

well he could finish with the following stats:

2,400 hits

350 HR

200-plus SB

Now Biggio had better mix of numbers like this: 3,000 hits, 350 HR and 400 SB and didn't make it in first ballot (Yes, he had the magic 3,000) but Biggio will get in. Soon.

But Torii may be closer numbers wise than you think and could make a decent showing in the balloting......he probably does not get in.

This is Hunter's 16th extended season (he had cups of coffee in two) and he's at 49.1 WAR, an average of barely 3 WAR per season. That's a decent player, not a hall of famer.

Also, now he's at 0.9 WAR over his stint with the Tigers (including -0.7 this year) where is everyone crying about not bringing him back?

No.  Torii in fact is just in the above average category.  Couple of all star seasons but never lead the league in any major stats.

He is in the HOF for great clubhouse dudes though.  Will always love him for his time with the Angels.

He is one of those players who can be classified as very good, but not among the all-time greats. Most of his career he wasn't even the best player on his own team, which is one thing that many people will look at when deciding on him for the HOF. He was a terrific defensive center fielder at the peak of his career, but defense usually doesn't put you in the hall unless you're a middle infielder.

Torii is a lot better than that. He's not a HOFer but he is certainly better than a hand full of guys currently enshrined.
