vs different pitchers, defenses and in different ballparks.

Okay, point taken. Plus small sample size.

Still, he hit .198 for the A's in the month of July, with a .573 OPS. Now the A's were 14-9 in those games, but to say the trade left a big hole in their offense is simply not true.

Gomes has been a downgrade for them defensively. I also think with the new setups they are doing an excessive amount of platooning which is having a negative effect on many of their players. Can't get better against same handed pitching if you never face them.

My friend lives in the Bay Area and when this trade happened, he said then it was a bad idea for the A's. He said Cespedes is a huge favorite up there and everyone likes him. We can debate all day on how we feel chemistry is overrated, but the A's have been terrible without him. So I don't know, maybe there is something to it even if his numbers say otherwise.

Is this going to be the next stat you constantly repeat in each thread? Can't you maybe talk about how resilient the team is instead? Maybe mention despite our struggles throughout the season we still have the best record in baseball?

There is no doubt of the resiliency, and no doubt that playing nothing but close games aides the prep for the post-season.

The question though is, at what point does playing nothing but close games wear on a team?

Not after years of those two missing expectations. By now Angels fans should accept the signing of those two were a mistake and be happy they are winning with mediocre Pujols and shitty Hamilton.

However, the A's didn't sign Pujols and Hamilton with the expectation that they could be an offensive force. Angel fans should have different expectations.

You should ask the A's, they are the team that is on a five game losing streak.

96 runs in 28 games (Halos since the ASB) is pretty bad.

29th now in MLB in runs scored since the break. Only the lowly Mets have scored fewer. Hopefully it all ends today and the bats start hitting to their potential. Crush Boston and take 2 of 3 from Oakland

I'm not sure many have stated that it left a big hole in thei lineup (I sure haven't), but rather that his absence has had an overall effect on the lineup
