Trout isn't ready to lead

This is no disrespect for Trouts greatness as a player ... he's only 23 years old and shouldn't be expected to be the team leader.

From what I've been watching on the field and in the dugout it's been Albert Pujols leading the way as it should be.

If the best player in baseball was ever declared captain of the team, Pujols would get butthurt. Scioscia is very much aware about how sensitive Albert can be.

Rarely is the best player on the team the captain. Otherwise it would have been Alex Rodriguez as the captain of the Yankees.

Leadership isn't about great performance but how you act when it gets tough for you. Pujols has struggled for the past three seasons and yet set the ball in motion for an Angels comeback by shooting Rodney with an arrow, and Trout followed him along with the rest of the team for a win.

That was probably the turning point for this team in terms of knowing they were as good as their record and capable of being better. Leaders give the team confidence in themselves, not just post the best stats.

Pujols and Trout seem to have a pretty good bond.  I do notice that Pujols, Trout and Weaver are always the first ones congratulating other players.

I wonder if Trout has ever been the leader on any of his teams. To me he seems a great follower - not one to rally the troops per se but one who is loyal to the guy who is. It doesn't take being a leader to be great. Some people have it, most don't.
