as usual, the you dont understand card is played...

IF that were as gospel as you think it is, the braves should have won 5 WS in the 90s, and the As should have won the last like 4

but by all means please, keep touting the holy grail

What the hell does this even mean?

He was hitting better than his replacement, Fuld, is hitting now. Do you really believe a player's only influence on his teammates is his BA?

Also, since you brought up equal causation, Cespeses' avg in Boston has no correlation to what he would have done if he were still playing for Oakland. He has faced different pitchers and defenses, and has done so in different ballparks

OK, well then, his average the last month he was in Oakland was .198. So he was worse before being traded away.

So the trade makes the A's worse in the regular season, where they face teams like the Twins and the Astros, but better in the postseason.

Makes sense.

it make absolute sense....why would we be scared of the Mariners in a one game playoff but not in a 7 game series? Same logic.

One thing nobody has pointed out when talking about Cespedes and his pedestrian AVG, OBP, and OPS is how he hits with RISP:

Career:  .297/.364/.869

2014:  .293/.347/.888

Cespedes comes through when it matters.  He was the main catalyst to the A's offense and has been a huge catalyst on the Red Sox as well, which we got to see first hand when the Angels played them last week.

Cespedes loss is clearly affecting them.

He meant a lot more to that franchise than can be shown in mere statistics, IMO. He was a guy opponents were leery of facing regardless of how he was hitting at the time, because he was always a threat to hit the ball in the seats. Then there was that throwing arm. Unbelievable.

the A's traded their spark plug.

of the three new rotation guys, two are pitching well while I don't think Hammel has won a game for the A's yet and his starts have been anything but quality start.

Cespedes was the offensive spark for the A's ---- they miss his presence in the line up and in the outfield.........

I think the Cespedes and Russell trades had more to do with the stadium situation. If the A's win a WS their leverage for public money for a new stadium increases + the comparison against the horrific Raiders is starker.

The Russell trade simply couldn't have been a baseball trade. Economics, the valuation of the club and the pursuit of public money for their own stadium must have played a role.
