What's crazy is if Sheilds didn't go two innings all the time he might still be pitching. He came up only 13 years ago so it's not unheard of for a guy to pitch that long.

Shields wasnt really a big part of that pen though was he? I seem to remember him foming in to the spotlight a year or two later (could totally be wrong).

Correct, Shields even started 11 games from July 29, 2003 to the end of the 2003 season (with a 4.00 ERA in those games). 

It was 2004 when he became a standard part of the late innings pen.

 

The most important guys in the backend of the pen in September/October 2002 were Weber, K-Rod, Donkey, and Percy.

Thats how I remember it AO. 9th was percy, 8th was donnelly, 7th (8th mix) was donnelly/weber. Frankie came really late, and shoenwise was the lefty

I miss weber. He doesnt get remembered as much as the other guys...even with his super cool delivery
