2013 Outlook: Mark Trumbo had a true Jekyll and Hyde season in 2012. The first half he was on fire (.306 BA/.358 OBP/.608 SLG w/a .327 BABIP) and was going toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the game and then, almost inexplicably, he fell off a cliff (.227 BA/.271 OBP/.359 SLG w/a .302 BABIP) after the All-Star Break? What in the heck happened?

Mark's BABIP was down in the 2nd half but it still doesn't account for the massive drop in his slash line. One factor that seemed to weigh heavily was that he struck out a lot more  and walked a bit less. Trumbo seemed to struggle with making good contact and it certainly looked as if he was having trouble with the breaking ball.

Mark is an easy player to admire and if any player can figure out his own problems it is probably Trumbo. His quiet intensity combined with a solid work ethic and the grit that Angels fans love in their players will always make him a fan favorite.

Look for Mark to make adjustments as the season moves along and eventually he will solve some of his own problems and you should see some hybrid version of his 2012 first and second halves in 2013. The one thing Trumbo clearly has is pure raw power so the long ball will always be his friend. Add that to some deceptively above average base stealing and defense and you have yourself a real middle of the order "feared" hitter.
