How about this: have some day/night doubleheaders through the season so the games can end around September 26? Then have a best-of-three playoff between the two wild cards. That would also give the division winners some rest so their players would be fresher for the next round(s).

Changing the baseball regular season is one of my favorite topics. I love the idea of double headers.

Same here, and I've also witnessed several other historic collapses by other teams. The 1964 Phillies, the '69 Cubs, the '78 Red Sox, etc.

Too young for the 64 Phillies (Poor Gene) and the 69 Cubs, but I remember enjoying the 78 Red Sox collapse (Bucky freaking Dent).

Here's the thing with Pujols.

While he is better than in 2013, it's not a whole lot better. The OPS is maybe .035 better, and still waaaay below even his 2011 OPS when he was hurt. And his 2014 OPS is still some .055 below his 2012 OPS.

In other words, don't expect anything better from Pujols going forward.

I hope Arte is happy with his $240 million purchase.

I guess $240 million doesn't buy what it used to?

Thats why a division championship is so important. You can't count on Pujols or Hamilton when you need quality at bats in a one

and done format. You can mask the problem in a series of games but in one wild card game the league knows how to pitch these guys.

Yep. You could easily have a combined 0-8 from these two and the team loses 2-1 or some similar close score.

Pujols and Hamilton should be raking and scaring the hell out of opposing teams. That's why they were signed in the first place, to give us some serious wallop in the 3 and 4-spots. Unfortunately, they've been cream puffs much of the time.
