Will the Angels Do Anything

Recommended Posts

There are about three hours left until the trade deadline, will the Angels make a move? If so are you thinking an impact starter or a depth move starter? Are you thinking a little tinkering to add a little extra depth for the bench? Another outfielder? A third baseman? A middle infielder for depth? What do you all think?

I think the Angels are good. They already did what they needed to do and that was shore up the bullpen and get someone to finish games. There is no one available that is going to give us anything worth trading for. At least someone we can afford. Grilli and Street were our two big trade deadline acquisitions. Verdict is still out on Thatcher.

They need another legitimate starter, but I don't see them being able to find the pieces from their farm system to get something done. They'd have to probably deal a contributing player from their major league roster, which I'd be hesitant to do, and I assume Dipoto would too

CJ Wilson is returning this weekend right? Or next week...they'll probably see how he looks when he comes back. A move in August seems more likely, assuming they end up making one

I wouldn't mind a small deal to get a guy like Bonafacio, he would be a great pinch runner late in games. He can play all over the field. He would be a great depth move.

You don't trade for pinch runners, there are plenty of fast guys in the minors to take that role.

Asdrubal Cabrera would be a nice pick up that could displace Freese from starting.

I considered this as well, until I saw Cabreras numbers. He's having a bit of a down year only posting a .692 OPS, which isn't much better than Freese .657. Unless the got him for basically nothing I think I'd rather stick with Freese.

This one intrigues me, upon having heard that the Indians are likely not picking up the option on him.

Maybe a fresh start with a contending team at 3B is just what Cabrera needs to return to his past hitting form.

He has to be much better defensively, even at 3B, than Freese is.
