Kidney stones

Recommended Posts

So how do you know if you have it? Like what does it feel like to where one says, "oh shit I think I have a kidney stone" or is it just crazy pain that a person ends up going to the doctor and the doctor tells you you have it?

You'll start by feeling like you have to pee.... but you don't.  You will feel uncomfortable.

Then you'll start feeling intense pain "down there".

At that point, head to dr.

for me, the pain was in my kidney - on my back left flank. hurt like nothing else i've had. went to the ER because the pain was so intense it was about to drop me to my knees. they took at CT scan and found it, a little tiny 1 mm stone. yep, that's all that it is, but the pain hurts like nothing else i've experienced. that's when i knew to get my butt to the ER.

drinking lots and lots of water. dehydration has been an issue for me in the past, so i'm being very deliberate about getting in as much water as i can right now.

haven't had the sensation to pee any more than usual, and haven't had any pain in that area. what i've read and been told by docs this week is that it hurts until it reaches the bladder because it move through such a small opening. once it hits the bladder, it passes out through a bigger tube. the doc also gave me flomax to make sure the highway was clearer for the stone to pass.

Dehydration was the cause of mine. Went to USVI for a week vacation, and I was really stressed out from work. I drank beer and wine all week, and popped Tums. The doctor said that was a recipe for stones. Didn't happen until I got back home (thank god), but I knew something was going on. Horrible pain, sweats, and I could not stand straight. I waited until my kids went to bed before going to the ER because I did not want to scare them. I didn't know it was a stone at the time. Demerol did nothing to cut the pain, but when I got my Dilauded IV push, I was a happy, pain free man. IV hydration got me to piss it out within 4 hours.

Learned from that mistake.

I went to the hospital about 5 years ago because I had intense pain on the left side of my back. When I got to the hospital the pain subsided. They asked if I could pee in a cup for them and I said "I doubt it but I will try". I was able to pee in the cup and .....plink.....there it was. The entire process, from first bout of pin to finish, took around 2 hours. I got lucky.

The doctor said that was the closest you will ever come to experiencing the pain of child birth. I explained that I had had Diverticulitis and he said "Oh.....nevermind. That may be worse than this".

Sorry to hear that, Tank.. Sounds like you'll be drinking-up all the Arny-Palmies now.

I thought I was battling stones last year.  Off-and-on for a while, I'd been suffering with a blockage that I thought was stones.  Then, I went a full-day of not being able to break-through it and went to my doctor.  He didn't know what it was, but sent me immediately to the emergency room where I became the only man in the history of the world to ASK for a catheter..

Two or three nurses, along with a doctor were unable to break-through the blockage..  They called-in a urinary specialist.  He started me on some good painkillers and numb-ers, and was finally able to break-through the seal.  I forget the numbers, but my bladder contained about 4/5 times the amount of a full bladder when they drained me and I fell asleep from exhaustion.

Turns-out, I had a scar-tissue build-up that finally fully-blocked my urethra.  I've never had an STD (which is the usual cause), and the pee-pee Doc cleared the road.  I go for follow-ups occasionally to make sure it doesn't scar-up again, and it's AMAZING to be able to piss like a horse now; the guys at work were laughing at the absolute joy I got out of my restroom visits..

I drink almost a gallon of water a day now to help keep things flowing, cuz if this pain is on par with stones I'm not interested.

Yikes.  That scares the hell out of me.

Coworkers make fun of me because of how much water I drink and how often I use the pisser.  I have ended in the ER because of dehydration and I don't want that to happen again.

Anytime you wind up at the MCAS, it's a bad day.

I don't like Yuma.  I spent a couple of days at YPG doing some testing on a sensor system.  Picked up some sort of rash or something it really sucked.  They were probably testing some herbicide or bio shit or something.

thanks. had a pretty miserable week. was in the ER halloween night for several hours with more crippling pain. my stone had grown in size and was 8x4mm. was worried a lot about passing it. was in the jr. high restroom after school yesterday and much to my surprise, it just suddenly shot out, making a big ping sound against the urinal wall. hit the drain before i could catch it, and there's just no way on this earth i'm reaching into the drain of a jr. high boys urinal. it's now somewhere in the pacific where it's being swallowed by some rock cod that one of you is going to catch off the manhatten pier tomorrow afternoon. bon appetit.

Gout sucks.  I haven't had a flare up in a few years but in 2007 during the holiday season I had a nasty flare up after eating steak, shell fish and drinking too much alcohol in a very short period of time.  I get flare ups in my ankle.

I haven't had a flareup in a while, but mine usually happens in foot joints. Makes it hell to walk. Indomethacin has been a miracle drug for me.
