Angels' bullpen now a strength with Street

It has been fun watching these guys over the past month or 2.  Winning close games, a staple of the 2002 team.   Pujols and Hamilton aren't exactly mashing, but the rest of the team has picked em up.

Living in San Diego county and watching Street with the pods over three years...he's a very determined, smart guy with an average fastball, plus offspeed stuff, and plus plus placement.  He enjoyed playing under Black.  His success is as much a testimony to his competitive drive as it is to physical ability.  He will give 100% all day long.  In many ways, he's a lot like Smith, maximizing results with strategy and placement rather than heat.  In sequence they provide a challenging portfolio to hitters, especially when preceded by Jepsen's upper 90s heat.  Of course Scioscia prefers a predictable end of game relief sequence, but I think mixing these guys up a bit might even improve their effectiveness.

Isn't Jeppy still under club control for another season or so?

You made me look.   Dude is under team control through 2016.  Won't be a FA until 2017.   Seems hard to believe, but he's been sent up and down so much over the years.   Would be great if the tease finally ended and this Jeppy is the future Jeppy.

Street's dad James was known for being a fearless wishbone QB for U of Texas in the late 1960s.

Won a national title in 1969 by helping to rally Texas from a 14-0 deficit to start the 4th quarter as Texas beat Arkansas 15-14 (famous game of the century).

Street's 42 yard TD run to start the 4th quarter, and then his 44 yard pass completion on 4th down and 3 to get inside the 15 yard line, led the comeback vs. Arkansas.

He was also a standout pitcher with a career 29-8 record for Texas, including one no-hitter in 1969 and one perfect game in 1970, both against SWC opponents.
