Johnny Mac at the Big A

I know McDonald is on the roster for his defense but his .034 BA at the Big A is ridiculous. He is 1 for 20 in July and basically been worthless at the plate. Hope Don Baylor can work his magic on John.

He will never be much better than he is with the bat, otherwise he'd have been a superstar years ago.

 

His bat is horrible but it's only really compounded by the fact that the offense is slumping. His defensive value alone makes him a valuable player to have. Imagine if Freese was playing 3rd in the 9th in a 1 run game? Yeah, no.

Especially for the post-season, it's worth carrying one glove man who can play in the infield. Saving a run is just as good as knocking one in.

You could make a good argument we should be looking to pick up a backup SS/3B on the waiver wire or on the cheap via trade, because the whole McDonald thing is getting very tiresome very quickly.
