Matt Shoemaker appreciation thread

So, doesn't this guy deserve his own thread? You have to love his story, and it's awesome to see how he competes among the league's best this year. It's fun to follow a good team that runs into these unexpected gems.

Take away his one really bad start in KC and his ERA is 3.40 and WHIP is 1.12 over 72.1 innings.

The 77/15 Ks/BBs over 76.1 innings is a huge surprise, as is striking out 1 batter per inning with that nasty splitter as the big out pitch.

The only negative with his stats is the 11 HRs allowed.

Based on the above, and although having a little different pitch repertoire, he has emerged so far as Weaver lite.

And he has now thrown enough innings that his stats shouldn't really be deemed the product of a small sample size. His only problem is the high homerun rate, but he strikes out enough guys, and walks so few guys, that he can probably still give you league average innings. He has been huge to the team this year, and looks like a guy who might be able to hold down a rotation spot for several years to come.

Many on here thought Shoemaker was crap and were pissed when Santiago was demoted. Good to see people coming around finally. Shoe has been consistent and capable of going 7+innings each time he takes the mound. Something Santiago struggled with mightily.

Sometimes a rotation spot isn't given to you, you have to go out and earn it. Guys like Weav, Richards and now Shoe pitched so well they forced the Angels hand, who are traditionally slow to make such switches.

If Shoe isn't this team's 5th SP for the remainder of the year and to begin next year then there's something wrong. Not to take away from a Hector who has been very good lately and has a higher upside, but Matt has earned the job.
