I won't lose any sleep over it but if creating agony and suffering is wrong then it's wrong and I'd prefer that my government not participate in it in the name of justice.

I'm not really a fan of capital punishment but the families of victims of violent crimes often hold a different view.

i think if you are going to toss the 8th in peoples faces you should realize that not everyone agree with what you think is cruel or unusual as that is an opinion, not a fact.
We are not talking about someone being gutted and bleeding out in agony here... there is nothing here that states he was in any pain... or even conscious or aware of what was happening to him for that matter.. gasping is little more than a physiological reaction at that point as is normal breeting during sleep
ive seen nothing to indicate this was anything more than that.. the person was not crying out, or begging, or anything else.. in fact it was described as snoring.

please tell me how ANY of this is cruel, or unusual, aside from the fact that it took longer than expected?
