How hard can it be to play first base? He has no long term future here as a DH and limited trade value if he can't fake a position as well as Trumbo did. Send him to winter ball to figure it out.

Cron won't hurt us that much at 1B. If there's an option obviously he should DH, but if Albert is hurt or Navarro isn't promoted or playing then I'm all for Cron taking 1B.

In defense of Cron's defense, he has also saved a few throwing errors with his size and reach.

CJ is a better hitter than Trumbo ever was.  He doesn't walk of course and has excellent power, but his contact skills are what will separate him.  He hits the ball hard a lot, but he also fights off pitchers pitches for bloop singles to RF a fair amount.

I agree with the premise that he is young and still developing and is a great hitter. I think he can get better defensivley as he gains experience. This is not the year for him to do that. The Angels are going to make the playoffs and can't afford his below average defense on the field every day.

He's rocking a -0.9 dWAR that has negated his offensive contributions. Pretty remarkable considering that's only in ~150 innings.
